2001 GSR Bran new SpArK PLUGS, Covered in Oil.. Causes?? Remedies?
Hey whats up guys I have a 2001 GSR. Check Engine light lit up and said IACV. I cleaned it twice, and the light went away however my Idle was sitting at 3 to 4000 RPM's. I pull off the Manifold to clean it and there was a residue of oil on the inside. NO IDEA HOW THIS CAN HAPPEN? ( I do have a SHITTY INTAKE just FYI )
So I threw in some new spark plugs put the Manifold back on and i'm confident everything is in the right place. Timing belt is DEAD ON THE MONEY, however I can get a timing light reading due to NO spark because there's oil in THE CYLINDER! AGHH
Now, about 15,000 miles ago I had a valve job done cleaned up the pistons and slapped it all back together NOT A SINGLE PROBLEM until now. I did NOT USE OEM honda piston rings. I used O'rilies auto cheap ones. So I am curious if that could be the cause, but I highly doubt it.
The distributor's teeth look bent and I know they are only supposed to go in one way! However it goes in both ways VERY EASILY! Which I know is not normal.
What can cause all 4 cylanders to fill with oil so fast? I pull out a set that did not have a drop of oil, put in a new set idled like crap and they became covered in oil. I did reuse my old tube seals because they were not even changed that long ago. Thanks guys.

god that's hard to read....
so the engine's cylinders are filling with oil? or you mean the spark plug tubes? the valve cover gasket pieces are one-time use.
a little oil or residue will always end up in the intake manifold.
what the hell is a 'valve job and cleaned up the pistons' ??
i give up, it's friday

If your getting oil on your spark plugs.. problem is the o-rings around them...
So replace valve cover gasket and spark plug seals.. but before installation make sure no oil is on surface of where gaskets are gonna make contact or you won't get a proper seal...
But if your getting oil on ur pistons not good.. will cause serious engine damage..
Did you hone your cylinder walls properly?

Sum oil in manifold is not that much of a big deal.. u get it from ur intake due to positive crank case pressure.. and get a carburetor cleaner and spray it around.. if idle changes theirs ur problem..
Let me know how it goes...

I found on the distributor that the teeth are slightly bent. I know that the Distributor is only supposed to go in ONE way, however it goes in both ways like butter! I don't know if this is good or bad.
I did a compression test and got 200 to 210 PSI for all 4 cylinders.
I attached a timing light and got intermittent flashing. I could not get an accurate timing light reading. I know that the intermittent flashing means that the spark plug is not sparking, however I pulled the wire and touched it to metal and it spark perfectly fine.
While the engine was idling I disconnected the IACV and the engine SHUT OFF RIGHT AWAY! With the engine off I plugged the IACV back in and heard a whistling sound or like an electrical currant sound. DEFIANTLY NOT NORMAL! Between my IACV and bent teeth on my distributor, I think I have no choice but to get another dizzy and another IACV. Let me know guys thanks.

If your idle changed when you sprayed it means you need to replace your gasket... No questions asked and if you had oil in your dizzy.. clean it real good and check resistance on your coil so you don't waste money...
do you mean I have to change the distributor cap gasket?
Hey everyone problem solved!! I had my TPS and MAP censor plugs swapped!!!
