Got FREE Oem parts today, easy install??
Boy oh boy talk about good luck. Skip 3 paragraphs if you dont wanna hear the story
Today a guy came into my dads tire shop to get his new tires put on, long story short he asked me about my crx and what I was doing to it (was on jackstands) and I told him I was diagnosing my rear wheel noise, which I think is a bad bearing.
Out of freaking knowwhere, this guy says he has a friend that had a crx, use to road race it, sold it, but has tons of parts laying around and he may have parts I can have. He offers to call his buddy and I continue to mount and balance his tires, but in my head Im thinking nothing is actually gonna pan out.
Well I guess he called his friend, told him my problem, and the guy must not have been doing anything because he screeched up to my shop in 5 minutes flat before I was even done the tires. Shakes my hand, talks about his crx for a minute, and then pulls a box out of his trunk and says here you go!!! Buddy didnt ask for a penny, wouldnt take anything (only had $40 bucks on me anyways), and then he was gone as fast as he came. I openned up the box and look what I see!!







So basically I hit gold and Im pretty sure I just might fix my problem for free. Problem is I dont know how to change or perpare these units, or if by chance they may not be the right ones. Are these so simple to change that I just loosen the 32mm nut, remove the wheel, caliper, rotor and this hub will just slide off? Or is there more to it? Im really unsure of how to change this piece
Also do I need to prepare or clean these units? As you can see in the closeup pics, there is some sort of brown grease on them Im presuming is anti rust grease because the units are quite old but new. Do I need to grease or brake clean anything? Can anyone confirm I have the right piece to fit on my car with rear disc brakes?

remove wheel,caliper,rotor, remove 32mm nut put new one on then put all back together. Check it with the old bearing and your good to go

As for prep, you will have to remove the old ones. They should just knock right off the spindle after removing the hub-nut. Problem is they usually leave an inner bearing race behind that is tricky to remove. I did one myself using a dremel. Just be patient and cut a deep angled groove all the way across the inner race till it gets down near the hub. Then using a chisle, strike down into the groove you cut. The hardened steel race will crack and relieve the pressed-on tension. THen it will slide right off with a little work from your screwdriver.
Once the inner race is removed, you should be able to slide the new hub onto the spindle. Install the hub-nut and it will press the new hub all the way on. Don't forget the washer that must go between the hub & hub nut before you go torquing everything down.
Watch this video from about the 4:29 mark and Eric will show you how to cut an inner race off a hub. The rears leave the race behind on the spindle, but it's the same concept.

I just changed my driver side rear today. It might take a bit of effort to get the old hub/bearing off. I used a gear puller thing. The inner race of the bearing stayef on. So i took a chisel type thing and did that to get it off the spindle. It wouldnt come all the way off so i cut it a little bit to make it easier. Btw i have drum brakes.

Cant wait to install it, I should mention I also passed on the good deeds by doing the guys tire work for free, I also found 2 complete energy suspension poly kits, a few sets of LCA's with poly bushings already in. Brand new oem front calipers, 2 sets of hawk brake pads and some misc honda parts/seals that I havent figured out yet
