2001 CR-V Has Child Seat Anchors, but Retrofit to 97-00?
Hey guys I've not really found any reliable info on this subject.
I'm looking into a 1st-gen CR-V as a daily driver since my 2011 Fit is less than ideal for a rear facing infant seat and a huge-*** toddler in his forward facing seat as the seat/his legs restrict front seat recline/legroom.
I've seen on sites like Edmunds that the 2001 CR-V added LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) for mounting child safety seats without having to use the rear shoulder belts, so my question is:
If the 2001 had them standard, can one retrofit LATCH mounts to the 97-01 CR-V?
Basically the mounts look like this:

I imagine the chassis is predrilled/tapped for the mounting hooks in the 2001 model, but I'm curious about the 97-00 models. I'd not be 100% confident in drilling/tapping mounting holes for the 97-00 if that is what is needed.
Anyone have knowledge on this?
Thanks in advance!

Okay so I just found THIS DIAGRAM (clickable) with the following picture:

Looks like parts 24-28 are the main parts to the LATCH system in a 2001 CR-V SE.
When I pull up other years of the 1st-gen CR-V the picture still shows items 24-28, but they are NOT selectable for purchase.
So I've basically answered for certain that the 2001 CR-V came standard with the LATCH set-up, but I'd sill like to know if the 97-00 has the bosses/set-up for proper installation of these parts.

just went to check...never mind. Doesnt have it. Wouldnt be hard to custom fab some in there though. Theres a steel subframe under the seat.
if that latch is a saftey thing and your set on having it i dont think you should try and fab something to get it to work. after all this is your kids were talking about. id personaly only do it if all the mounting holes are allready there that way you know its good to go and safe.

If the hole are there, and there is some way to compare a 2001 to a pre-2001 model then i'd be fine with adding the LATCH mounts.
If the metal is reinforced and/or the mounting holes are absent in the pre-2001 models, then that narrows my search down to 2001 models alone.
I would not attempt "modding" or fabbing anything when it comes to LATCH mounting points. There could possibly be legal ramifications as well if (luck forbid) an accident ever occurred and some injury were sustained by either/both of my kids as they were sitting in safety seats attached with "custom" LATCH mounts...

your right i do put my kids lives ahead of my fab skills any day. i too weld everyday at work but my kids mean alot to me to just fab something up versus something that was enginered and crash tested by profesionals. but to each their own just putting my .02 out there.
IMO, if anything kids get hurt more often from improper positioning or improper belt tightness then a weld braking loose... there shouldn't be a problem so long as you install it like factory. Can you guys tell if in the diagram, it's bolts that hold it down or if it's welded? I'll love to add this to my V.
What I'd really like to see is someone who owns a 2001 Cr-V that has removed rea seats to clean them, etc. and then see exactly what those anchors look like installed.
I suspect the anchors are bolted into predrilled/tapped holes in the chassis floor (near where the rear seat backs pivot) as opposed to being welded in. I do wonder though if the areas where the anchors are mounted (welded or bolted) is braced further than previous models that lacked the LATCH system.
I have a 2005 Element and a 2011 Fit that has the LATCH mounts, and IMO they allow for WAY easier proper installations of both a rear facing child seat base and our forward facing child seat. In my Element the mounts are integrated into the rear seats themselves since the seats are completely removable.
I MUCH prefer the LATCH install as opposed to pulling the lap/shoulder belt all the way out to engage the ratcheting action, then trying to get it cinch up tight enough to secure the seat/base to my liking.

Sweet! Thanks for the info redbull-1! The image shows for the top tether anchorage points. I'm hoping its a bolt in style for the seat tether anchorage points as well.
Wait, you're saying in CA they'll give you approved Honda Anchors at no cost? I'm sure they'll want to charge shop labor thought to install...? Doesn't hurt to ask i guess.
I got my tether for my 99 crv at the dealer for about 10$ , they should always have some in stock. takes about 10seconds to install, if you don't know how to use a wrench or " I need it now", ask and they'll install for free.
don't know about the latch parts on the diagram above, I'd go to the dealer and ask, then report back
