Default engine is hard to accelerate at take off

my engine is having a hard time during take off after changing the head gasket. is this normal or somethings wrong with the engine? everytime i take off from a full stop and step on the pedal to the floor, it still is having a hard time accelerating but when it reach 20 mph or something, it runs alright.

Sounds like your timing belt is off a tooth or two.

that could be it cos we had a hard time putting back the timing belt when we changed the head gasket. But what could be other reasons why its having a hard time during take off?
