Default What to look for when purchasing a used Legit Garrett turbo

Hey

There's a local classifieds selling a Gt28 ball bearing water/oil cooled turbo. I requested a box, receipt, serial number off the turbo. Kid has nothing and said it needed new seals.

Are there any markings that make it legitimate?

ball bearing garrett turbos cannot be rebuilt, you have to purchase a new CHRA

Appreciate the tip.

Any idea on how to check its legitimacy of being a 'Garrett'?

well for starters it will say garrett everywhere and there should be a garrett tag on the center section with a garrett part number

should look similar to that and ask him for the part number off the tag then google it...

and if he isnt selling stupidly stupidly cheap it isnt worth it as a new center section is about 900 dollars
