I didn't intend to work on this vehicle at all but it's been in the family since the dealers lot. My mom loved it, then gave it to my sister, and my sister gave it to my older brother...now it's my turn although I already have my own Civic as my first car/daily. I'm still in high school so please understand money is tighter than a chinese finger trap and i'm doing my best to spend wisely+appropriately.

I told myself I will have to do at least 1 thing every day if I want anything done; as there is no such thing as completion without progression even if it's only removing 1 small bolt.

 

Day 1: Clean out interior, remove seats



Day 2: Continue interior cleaning and install cluster.








Day 3: wash V, remove stickers, tackle up engine bay with WD-40 and remove parts.








Day 4: Attempt to remove the darned broken propeller shaft

 

got a pretty good start there buddy. Looks a lot better already. Why did you remove the seats? just to clean it better? Drivers side floors are bad for rotting out...should pull the carpet and see what your dealing with.

Yeah to clean better, it has many stains so i'll shampoo and then maybe even dye the headliner+carpet/floorliner whatever it's called, aha!. I'll surely check that out then, plus there's a stench so if I have to, i'll maybe go as far as ripping out the dash to be sure there's nothing dead or spoiled.

Day 5: Remove stinkin' propeller shaft

(put the bolts back in tight but not contacting with the surface, just so I don't lose them later)








Progress may be slow, but it's progress! Now I got my paycheck, so the V should be running in 2 weeks! (shipping will take a while of course)
To get the darned propeller shaft off, I had to use a lug-wrench and a stock jack bar hammered into the dirt to prevent it (the shaft) from moving while I turned the small 10mm wrench by hand. Thank goodness it's gone, I hope that was the only major problem with the V other than the now lack of music and aircon!


Up next, continuing to clean out the engine bay and interior and will do so until I get the parts shipped in from Rockauto. I might be doing some re-painting (valve cover and some mounts here and there in the bay) Any suggestions?
I was looking at this blue/teal and might carry that color with black throughout the V like paint the calipers, new lug nuts, blue/teal tinted bumper lights.
I've been also looking at throwing on a spark plug cover (i'm aware there are none for non-vtec B engines, they have to be custom made)

(gotta find a way to do that custom spark plug cover but in some original design!)






edit: i'm so glad the V is very underrated, there's more things to do to it to be considered original and an individual. I tried making ideas for things to do to my 99 Civic sedan without being a copy or having something ugly and it's just too difficult!

oh and great too see u salvage the V .....its sad too see crv's at the scrap yard makes me want too take them home and fix them

Yeah, I know of one red automatic CRV at a local yard (I bought the cluster from it and threw it into my 99 Civic) If I need parts, i'd probably head over to it and pull from there, I know i'll be needing an A/C pulley & belt though. LD I might ask you for those!

Ah no worries that's a constantly re-maned part so I'll pick one up elsewhere. :D I hope this a/c works and all i'll need is the pulley+bearing, if not oh kill me, the shipping must be horrible.

 

i live in canada shipping wouldnt be worth it i dont think.... better off buying new or go look in some other scrap yards... and i work the times that the scrap yards are open except saturday's.... but if you are completely at a loss id try help you out

and did i see it right that you put an automatic cluster in a standard V ?

My CRV is automatic. combined the V's old cluster (broken needle) and my Civics old cluster speedometer (hence the blue ring)

Cool? Well it doesn't fit precisely, the speedometer has different holes punched in it, I could just cut out the speedometer to mount flushed but i'll do that some other time!
At first I thought it was a cheap and ugly fix! If you think it's cool, that really makes me think it's cool now, too. :D

 

I haven't had much time to do anything else lately; I was hoping to do one thing everyday but my work schedule is butting in (i work from 4pm to 12am midnight), im usually sleeping at 2am-9am and 10am-3pm is SUPER HOT outside.
I did get something done today though. At first I was like
I should steam/shampoo the CRV seats today!
and then I was like
I should change my Civic seats, the CRV driver seat has adjustable butt and an armrest!

I thought there was an armest still, but NO my brother broke it off or lost it or something. I'm so pissed. They're pretty much the same seat design, the CRV just has some extra padding, a different headrest, different cloth, adjustable butt on the drivers seat and supposedly an armrest. And one thing.... they still stink.

 

So you put your V seats, in your civic? I think thats kinda a step backwords... I found my V seats extremely uncomfortable, even compared to stock civic seats. I found the V seats to be too "floaty" due to way too much padding. To each their own though.

 

Yeah, it was just an experiment. I'll put the V seats back into the V when it's running. Maybe get integra seats into my Civic. What Civic are you referring to? Same seats as mine?

 

All 3 of my EG's had the same seats.

Maybe because it was an EG not a 6th gen. Well the CRV and 6th gen Civic seats are basically the same, but the CRV has extra padding, I guess it's more comparable to the 99-00 Civic SI Seats.
Not going anywhere because I don't have the parts and can't get the spark plugs out!

 

Just did some little shopping today on Amazon. Parts for the V and my Civic.
These things should be coming in within the next 2 weeks since I live outside of the USA and once they do i'm going to head straight to firing up the V and hope it doesn't overheat or the valves need adjusting. I hope it's just gonna need a tune-up.

 

Believe it or not, the trick for getting super stuck spark plugs out is an impact. Dont just go gun ho on it though. Half second wraps. once it moves, take it off and use a ratchet. If you still cant find yourself an impact, use a long breaker bar and emulate an impact by giving it sudden jerks. It'll come out.

 

Spark plugs aren't stuck, I hope not it's the bits and pieces from the spark plug WIRES that are stuck

I can't get an impact but I have a breaker bar. I'll keep that in mind. I've been way too busy lately with work and it's been raining too much for me to do any work on the V, plus I still can't find a set of long-nose pliers and i'm not in a rush to.

 

What if u apply heat and wiggle them out with a plier??
