18.5 mpg around town?
granted a full tank lasts me almost 3 weeks, but i can't even squeak out 300 miles per tank. is there anything i need to look at to get that number up?
how are some of you guys getting 25+?

not sure if the o2's are bad or not. any way to tell?
here's something else weird. i noticed this last time and just now. last fill up i was at 291 miles and it took 13.5 gallons. i was in the red according to my gauge.
im at the same point right now. 290 miles in the red and no low fuel light. are these things known to go out?

Is your car automatic or manual transmission? Automatics are rated at 19mpg city while manuals are rated at 21mpg city.
I'm only stating the city ratings because you aren't doing any highway driving. Having a properly maintained car is helpful to getting good mpg. During highway driving using the cruise control helps and trying to keep your rpms lower helps. During city driving watch how fast you accelerate, accelerate a bit slower if you have a heavy foot, and how often you are on/off the brake/gas, keep a safe following distance to limit how often you are on the brake to slow for people turning and then accelerating again.
Since you aren't driving very far per trip and you see a lot of stop sign/traffic lights, don't expect to see high numbers. City driving sucks on mpg, nothing you can do about it.
Most people do a combination of highway and city driving and therefor see decent mpg numbers. For example, my 04 Si is rated at 22city/25combined/28highway, my normal daily commute is 22 miles round trip of combined city/highway and I average a pretty consistent 28.5mpg. My mpg during highway driving can vary depending on my speed, the slower I go the better the mpg is and it's a pretty fine line. When doing 75mph for an entire tank I will get around 30mpg maybe slightly more, but when I do 65-70 for an entire tank I will get around 33mpg. This is after just a couple trips in this car and I'm hoping to get a little more but if not I'm happy with it.
Now you stated on your last fill-up you were at 291miles and used 13.5gal of gas. That's 21.6mpg, not bad considering you only do city driving. If you'd like to try and get more mpg out of the car though you could check your air pressure and make sure they are all around 34psi or so, make sure your air filter is clean, make sure your spark plugs are good, have the alignment checked, make sure none of your brakes are sticking, etc.

I have a 2002 LX four door 5spd 4cyl. I get anywhere from 350 per tank when I'm city driving, and 390 miles when I'm highway driving. Still hoping for a 400 mile tank one day!
