Default 1994 Honda Civic DX Coupe Trying to get some info on suspension kits and brakes...

1994 Honda Civic DX Coupe Trying to get some info on suspension kits and brakes...

So I got some "17 inch rims and 205/40/17 wheels. So now I can see behind my wheels and it's pretty ugly... So I am looking for some cheap silver/grey/chrome shocks and struts and some red springs. The only issue is I can not lower my car because I only have like 2" of clearance between my wheels and the tire well. I looked on eBay already but all the ones on there are spring kits that are for lowering the car.

What kind of brakes am I supposed to have on the rear... because on the front I see disk brakes but on the back I don't see anything that looks like a brake? So I am also trying to find some cheap silver/grey/chrome rotors and red calipers as well.

Thank you in advance for any help!

OMG. Are you trying to upgrade a performance and handling part on your car by what friggin' color it is? Your car doesn't have struts.

And if you don't know what a drum brake looks like let me advise you on your first purchase; a manual for your car!

OK thank you for your 0% assistance... I don't know any thing more than I did prior to you posting so that's always good... The whole idea of a forum is for educational purposes if everyone knew everything about everything then there would be no need for forums... So yes your right I don't know what I am talking about. That's why I posted in this forum to get help from educated and intelligent people. Which you are neither because you did not help me at all.

Dont worry im not gonna flame you. I would recommend reading up on some various brands of suspension companies and see what they have in a similar color that your looking for. The rear of your car probably has drum brakes as my 96 dx does. I would advise as said by grumblemarc purchasing a haynes book for your car and going from there. There are alot of different companies out there that supply quality parts in various colors. Hope this helps you out.

I'm going to flame because you didn't even try to educate YOURSELF. The first pinned thread in the forum before you even post is titled
CLICK HERE all of you curious about suspension setups and their costs/reliability.
News guys, you are not the first to ask a question about suspension, especially not this question. Do yourself a favor and search before you post a question that has obviously been asked before you many MANY times.

Stop catching attitudes and cease with the juvenile name calling and you may learn something.

Wow you must be a numbers man 16,000+ post is pretty good. So what your trying to do is keep posting until one day you say something intelligent and in 16,000+ post you still have not done so. So I wish you the best luck on your endeavor. I would like to say that its probably not going to happen but you got the "little engine who could" attitude so I am rooting for you!

You can get mad all you want. My suspension is tight and I can tell you color wasn't a criteria when I put it together. I also know what a drum brake looks like and can tell the difference between struts and shocks. If you want to buy suspension based on color then you need to look through the Appearance sections or do a Google image search. If you really want to learn about what makes for a good suspension, then read the link I gave you. That is, right after you run to Autozone and get a Haynes or Chiltons manual.

Wow still trying to work the numbers... You need to change: "Boosted stock Y8;15g-32MPG FAQs!--How to Turbocharge your Civic--Want a faster Civic?--Want to turbo your Civic? Don't PM me with tech questions if you're new. Learn to search first." to: "I think I can think, I think I can think, chuchu"

Well now grumblemarc is dead on the money about the whole color thing as well as getting a haynes or chiltons. I do agree shopping for suspension based on color is a bit......well retarded as i would think if you wanted something a certain color bad enough you would just purchase a good quality suspension setup then rattle can it maybe? Either way a repair/service manual is a must for the OP so he better understands the basics. Like grumblemarc said there are a few sticky threads that are rather informative that can answer most if not all of your questions but a repair manual is something everyone should have for their vehicle. Even the best of mechanics over looks things and have to go back to basics from time to time.

as much as a smart-a33 grumble maybe he knows a few things. Search function will be your best friend on honda-tech

Yeah I read it about three weeks ago. Now the question is did you read it???? I posted saying looking for something CHEAP he said: "1) If you can't afford to spend $600 on your suspension, it is my personal belief that I am doing you justice by telling you to find a new hobby. If you find that much money to be too much for suspension you really need to focus more on paying your bills than dropping your commuter."

So his post was about high end stuff not low end items? Again with the numbers... please for every ones sake stop saying things in hope that someday you will say something intelligent, because it will never happen.

Normally I would buy some high end stuff I have spent over 6k on my car but I am currently unemployed so I am looking for something cheap and pretty to throw on there as a temporary fix.

$600 is high end? That's entry level at best. Anything less is garbage!!!

Just get the first red/gray/chrome thing you find on Ebay. YOu obviously do NOT wanted to be educated but instead are easily distracted by shiny objects.

Define "cheap".

They met two of your color criteria. Red and chrome. Just get some AGX KYBs because they are gray.

Wait. I just went into the garage and have a box of crap that you can have. It's full of substandard Ebay stuff I bought back when I was stupid and didn't know anything either. Red springs, chrome sleeves and some Dropzones, but those are black!

lol $600 is basically entry level name brand stuff. A koni yellow + GC setup puts you at the $800 range and is superb stuff with lifetime warranty. I would do some side work or something like that to scroung together the extra coin. $800 for a VERY good suspension setup with lifetime warranty is a heck of a deal.

You and your numbers holy crap... You got three post off before I could even start typing one... Jesus Christ man. Thank you for that link. I got one for you:

https://twitter.com/

You must think this is twitter where you share all you thoughts no matter how dumb or meaningless they are... IT"S NOT it is a forum where you share intelligent thoughts and opinions about one topic. No wonder you got to 16,000 with such goodies like "watched twilight loved it so much it made me cry again." SO just for further clarification this is not twitter i repeat no one gives a crap about how good you think twilight was this is a forum about car's... End of story.
