Default seam sealer

i am in the process of doing a bay overhaul. was wondering what everyone was using for seam sealer? plan was to remove all(as much as i can) the old junky looking seam sealer, prime it n then seam seal it. i would like a sandable option if possible.
do i have the process correct?
any advice would be helpful.

IIRC seam sealer goes over bare metal. then primer and paint.

and there are sandable seam sealers.
