Where are Garrett Turbo's made?
I'm having a GT28RS put on my JDM B18C Type-R. I was curious to see where that particular turbo is made. It looks to be a high end unit with B/B, liquid cooling and oil cooling...all kinds of ju ju.
TheShodan recently published a Garrett white paper that was very informative to the technical but not ultra non-technical unfortunately I didn't see where they were made.
Still don't know where it was made...tell me it isn't China. Don't get me wrong...China is a great place. They make wonderful great wall...forbidden cities...just not quite ready for them to be making a turbo that spins toward 200,000 rpm stuck to the front of my VTEC-Mini

Despite the little outburst that a fake (or actual) former employee tried to dump on the internet about people being lied to by being done in China.. (which is not true), the type of turbocharger determines where it was both manufactured and assembled, as they are two different locations.
The ball-bearing turbochargers that utilize a Carbonite ball-bearing cage that come in the GT-R and GTX-R series turbochargers, like your GT28RS has its parts actually manufactured at Honeywell in the U.S., but is actually assembled in Japan. The bronze cages for cartridges that are ball-bearing upgrades are manufactured in the U.S., but are assembled in Mexico, in addition to the journal bearing cartridges.
Lately, Garrett boxes have been relabeled as though assembled in the USA as of late. I may or may not investigate it with some of the people I still know at Honeywell / General Electric, but I doubt it as it I don't think it would do any good to anyone but to continue to insinuate conjecture and bullsh*t.
*EDIT* I received some information from a member that is from Honeywell Aerospace, which houses Garrett engineering. I'll keep his username out of it so that he does not get baraged with questions here and respect his decision for privacy. (Why would someone lie who they are? I can always check)..
He states that:
-All the performance auto, R&D turbos, and aluminum cores are built here in the U.S. (I still recall the assembly for some performance still in Japan)
-They do have a couple plants in mexico which makes/assembles all the diesel turbos, production cars turbos, plastic intercoolers and misc items.

He got it from Go-Autoworks, which is a bona-fide Garrett dealer. Most of the T04B housings from the GT-R series has it listed, but some don't
