Has anyone upgraded or "souped up" the AC blower on their car? I have an '89 Civic Hatchback with the D15b2 motor. The AC blower is drastically under powered. Theres nothing wrong with it, I know that for a fact. Its just not strong enough for my liking. I dont care about the level of custom work thats involved. I need something stronger. I'm wondering if theres a kit or a good DIY write up. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

 

If you haven't taken it all apart, your best upgrade is to clean out the debris in there and replace all the little foam seals in the dash. You are probably losing pressure through many leaks.

 

Yeah i'm iso a beefier blower motor. Got it out got the seals changed the blower seems to be blowing fine no clogs in the dash but it really just seems to be underpowered as all get out. I'm gonna do some diggin at my work tomorrow n see if i cant find a motor that will mount up with a bigger squirrel cage. Ill let yall know

 

The system is clean and the seals are perfect. Like I said, it's working perfectly but I want something more powerful.

Simply put I want a tornado in my car. Literally.

 

I would start with the evaporator before trying to upgrade the blower.
It's the radiator thing in the black box.
The fins get plugged with debris, gunked up with oils and dust, and then your air flow suffers dramatically.
Pros use a chemical to clean it.

Previous owner to the A/C system I had installed long ago was a smoker and a cat owner.
How did i know? The fins were tar brown sticky with a sheet of cat hair stuck across it like it was a lint screen.

 

I really don't know how else to say it. The entire system is clean and free of debris and working perfectly. That is NOT the problem. I just want something much more powerful.

But I'm not convinced a bigger blower is going to help you.
It might, but just my opinion I guess.
You can only blow as much air as you can pull through the evaporator.

 

Of all the forums this is the best response. Now I know ima have to redesign the system with a bigger evap and blower from another car. Thanks bro.
