Market place and value for ZC DOHC
Last year I bought an '88 CRX Si for a dd and it has worked out pretty good. It is all stock and I've put about $2,000 in it making it as reliable as possible. The first year of ownership I put around 23k miles on the car and expect it to stay around that.
When I bought the car it came with a spare ZC DOHC which has never been installed in the states - you know the ones with claims of being low mileage pulls from Japan. While I like the fact this engine will add about 25 horses; I prefer to keep my CRX stock - maybe build the D16a6 (no mini-me) for additional power...
My questions are around selling the engine. Should I tear it down and replace the gaskets, should I tear it down and build the engine or should I sell it as is? I have a friend that I'll rely on to help as I'm still learning. Where is my best return? Where is the market for these engine? Is there a market? What will the market bare?
I know this is all opinion but was hoping you folks with experience doing this stuff would chime in.
Thanks

where you located? depending on location, u will get diff prices. Over by me in Chicago, I see zc dohc go for 400-1000 just longblock and tranny. no ecu axles or anything. Im sure in the boonies, aka middle of nowhere the prices will be cheaper of course
Nevertheless, thanks for the comment.
With me having just the engine (no tranny, axles, ecu, etc.) I'll probably do a gasket / seal kit, collect a few parts and keep it for my tired 200k D16a6 when its time. It is worth more than $400 to me when my engine goes, a $1,000 would be a different story. Plus I can learn a lot along the way...
Thanks again
BTW I'm located 35 miles south of Atlanta
is the helping hand a shop that can back the rebuild? if not then keep it or sell as is. if it was me i would keep it and put it in instead of the singe cam engine!
