Pulling apart my spare motor to build and pulled the front coolant plug to check the sleeves and this came out

It was caked in the plug and the port... No ideas
Also when i pulled the head off i discovered a block guard. The end near the crank pulley sits 1mm higher than the other end and it moves....

There is some oil residue there.. It looks like the sleeves are full of this crap from the bottom of the sleeve up to the bottom of the water pump

I might try to pull the blockguard out and thoroughly clean the coolant jacket... Im just not sure why one side of the blockguard moves up and down when you poke it.
I've pulled all the galley plugs and am going to thoroughly clean all coolant and oil passages with rifle bore cleaners since this block sat around in and outside a buddies garage for awhile.

Block guard that moves?
Where did you get this motor?
The block guard needs to be removed and I would seriously consider sleeving the block. Who knows what they have been through considering the person who installed the guard either used junk, didn't know what they were doing with it, or both.
How do the cylinder walls look? Piston scuff?

one side wiggles. It looks like whoever installed it didnt fit the block guard properly, as in they didnt file fit it... It came in my buddies rhd integra, he gave it to me when he did his swap.
cylinder walls are flawless. just has some junk where the rings were since the motor wasn't turned over for quite a while.
Im going to attempt to pull the blockguard out without mangling it and cleaning out the coolant jacket... then I'll use marking dye and figure out where this bg is hitting the sleeves, file it down and see what happens. Since im only shooting for 400whp max I'm not going to sleeve it... already had a sleeved 2.1 liter ls/vtec, don't need that much power again lol

If its already loose using diechem and a file won't help you at all, throw it in the scrap pile. There are plenty of proven 400+ setups on stock sleeves without a cylinder brace.

I kinda lol'd when i noticed it and said eh I'll keep it in... But when i first noticed it was uneven i couldn't move it... While i was at my dads pwning a bitch of a crank pulley bolt that's when i tried to adjust it
One good whack with a blunt chisel and a hammer and now it bounces around like **** on a jog. also while i was putting it on the stand i noticed 3 transmission bolt holes were crossthreaded
.. The two that i got to thread eventually pulled out too even though i had it secured at the two through holes at the bottom of the block.... Timesert time i guess

Hmm thats interesting, never seen a block poop like that unless it was using like dexcool or something, then they tend to sludge up, but not behind a plug. Im thinking like everyone else said its probably alot of radiator stop leak. At any rate id definately trash the block guard, they arent supposed to move and they really arent of any benefit at all. Drill out the 3 tranny bolt holes that are crossthreaded, and rethread them the next size up and get some new bolts from mcmastercarr.

I was thinking about that. The problem is some of the holes are the ones with the dowels so i can't drill them out.
I know my buddy never used stop leak so it must have been whoever had it before.
Problem is now i can't get it back on my stand to clean it out

Also what would cause the blockgaurd to loosen up? Unless it was never properly installed or the sleeves shifted or settled... But I've rarely ever heard of stock sleeves doing either.
When i get the blockgaurd put and clean the coolant jacket I'll probably fill up the jacket with water abduction uv dye to see if there are any leaks just to be sure..
I do have another ls block but it vacated a rod... I have welded up holes in Honda motors before so i might patch the hole up and see what shape that block is in. (all of my friends give me free ****, from motors to Turbos to transmissions, cams, head studs and such so i have plenty back ups)
