Default C/F hood - re-clearcoat possible?

After 9 years, my c/f hood looks like crap, oxidized to hell. For a while I could use 3M marine polish on it to get it looking better, but it's gotten to the point where it's so bad that it can't be saved that way.

My question is, if the top surface was sanded down a bit and then clearcoated, would it look like new, or is it a lost cause?

wetsand with 220 (you will see yellow, thats the gel coat, make sure all the gel coat is off)

wetsand with 400 then maybe 800

Sweet, thanks! I actually tried sanding and clearing myself last summer but I did a crappy job. I'll probably just pay to have it done, hopefully it won't be too expensive. Don't think I can trust a cheap place like Maaco to get it done right. Wish you were closer (car is in Michigan) so I could have you do it!

do some of it your self, follow that guys instructions, and sand it your self, have macco clear it, they cant mess that up, and cut an buff it after wards your self

cheapest way to do it

it sounds easy but if you havent wetsanded before it might be a lil challenging. you dont wanna go to far and into the C/F.

If the clear coat flaked of at some spots then it will look bad if you sand and shoot new clear.
What I do is use a DA sander with P320, sand all the old clear of and sand it smooth.
Clean the hood with a degreaser, and lay down new clear hard with no less than 3 wet coats.
Clear brand must be a good quality.

i say use 220 first. dont use a DA, it leaves swirl marks. wetsand with a block. smooth it all out and redo it agian with 400 wet. then use wax/grease remover then lay on the clear heavy.
