Default code 6 and 10 after partial engine wash.

got a 93 civic with a 99 ls. Washed the front of motor and a little to the trans side. now i throw these two codes and wont start. It will crank but not start. I pulled dizzy cap off and scraped it. Didnt seem wet or damp. replaced both sensors (iat and ect) with a working set and still nothing. Is there something it could be?

6 ECT - water temperature sensor
10 IAT - intake air temperature sensor

I think it's not starting because of your IAT sensor. Did you remove the battery cables when washing? And did you at least wait for it to dry before trying to start the car? You may have shorted something.

well i did the jel engine spray and it says to warm car up after rinse but does nothing now. Is there something i should look for to see if its shorted? Volts on the ect wires and volts on the iat? Does anyone know these at cold temps.

I'd check all your fuses under the dashboard just to make sure nothing shorted and blew a fuse.

I don't personally know what readings your supposed to get off the IAT, if any, but I'm sure you'd be able to find it with a google search. Always add "honda tech" at the end of your search if you want to find an answer directly linked to hondatech.com....

ill check um but i dont think there is a fuse for anything relating to the two sensors. Or is there? I would assume the back up fuse if blown would not allow anything to work. Gonna let it sit over night and disconect the sensors hopefully just got some water in the ect and causing this wierd problem.

not that I know of, I was just saying to check just in case

I'd wait for the car to dry like you said, but just because the connectors or sensors themselves didn't get wet doesn't mean somewhere along the harness those wires didn't get wet...just saying

understand. I read alot of threads saying that the ect will cause no start when cold and it could be causing a/f ratios to tweak out with throws code 10 :/ So i have an extra harness if the drying dont help ill try to replace the plug and the ect sensor as well. Thanks ill keep posted

Neither one of those sensors will cause a no start. Are you getting spark at all?

Found out the problwm I didn't notice that one of the engine plugs was a little disconected guess the clip was broke so it wouldn't click on put ziptie around both end now works great. Ahh what a headache
