The headliner shouldnt be a problem, I think youll have to cut away part of the lower door panel. Chris (SUMOrex) @ Diablo Autosports (www.diabloautosports.com) in Livermore has a 4pt autopower in his 89 CRX Si (with the back gutted also) im sure he would be more than happy to let you check it out and compare how it fits in your car.
I've got the AP bolt-in bar in my '90si. There are no problems with the headliner. Do you have any pics? There should be no clearance issues with the headliner at all.
The interior door panels get taken off by removing the speaker panels, taking off a few screws on the front-end part, and carefully prying it off.
I had no idea what to do about the panels when the bar was in, but someone at the CRX performance forum recommended something, which has worked out pretty well. The panels are two pieces (top & bottom) held together by plastic rivets. You can drill these rivets out, and then seperate the two parts. Then, reinstall the upper portion, and that's about the best that you can do. The bottom portion will not work at all with the bar, and the most important thing about them (except for cosmetics, of course) is the venting of air to the windows, which is retained with putting the top half back on. Trust me - I drove around without them for many months, and driving in the rain was dreadful!
HTH!
