Default looking for a good D series motor to put in a classic mini

I am looking for a D series motor that I can pretty easily get 200hp (or over) with. Also I would like to still get about 30mpg highway.

The motor is going in a classic mini which only weighs around 1500 lbs with the motor. If I was to just add a turbo what kind of power would I be looking at with say a d16z6 or z7?

Depends on the turbo setup and engine management. Could vary greatly. I would say 200-215 whp would be fun in a little car like that though.

Check out the Forced induction forum and start doing some research.. lots of information out there!

D-series can safely boost 200ish hp on a stock block. YOu won't ever get 200hp in N/A form.

Any specific turbo kits you would suggest? and I saw one guy who had one that had about 195bhp I think and he said it did 0-60 in 3 seconds. Not sure if it was all-wheel drive or not though. I also need to see if a turbo would fit on it while in that car.

I was thinking about getting one from JDM because they are suppose to be pretty good. And I will be sure to get quality parts!

http://www.jdmenginedepot.com/ They get engines from japan that have around 50,000 miles on them and because they are much more strickt over there they bring them here.

I just read somewhere that with 200hp an automatic transmission would not hold up. Is this true?

and honestly I dont think a stock honda d series trans would hold 200 hp, the trans on these motors are very weak spots to being with.

that coupled with 200 hp from a d series = boost.
boost + automatic = not great

get a DOHC ZC (~130 hp), stage 2 clutch, and piece together a good turbo setup, and most importantly GET IT TUNED!!!

I've never heard that before. These transmissions are actually pretty strong. I think you were just talking autos in particular.

Well I can't go with just any motor, I have to make sure it will fit in the mini. I know a d16z6 fits so I think im just going to go with that. And if the trany ends up breaking I might swap it out with a stick if they really are stronger. Also will a super charger get me to 200hp? Im not sure if a turbo will fit I, will have to see.

Don't bother with a DOHC ZC. Another overrated engine. Two cams and still only 130hp? BTW, "Stage 2 clutch" doesn't mean anything.

I also wouldn't touch a D17 for modding. The tuning solution you pick better be able to deal with a COP engine, which is pricy. For what you have to do to get a D17 in your car you might as well drop a K series in it. If' its going in a Mini then you have no choice.

Stick with a Z6 or a Y8.

And if you're sticking with an automatic you might as well get a JRSC and call it a day. Automatics made by Honda don't hold power worth beans and D-series can only hold 200hp stock if the engine is healthy. People need to start doing some reading prior to posting.

You can fit anything in a mini. The shop I go to put a K in one of the older ones.

If this isn't going into a Civic then you need to look in the Hybrid forums.

Sounds like you have no idea what you're going to do. IMO putting an automatic D-series in a Mini and trying to boost it is just retarded.

I heard a while ago something about a Z6 head on a D17 but it was a few years ago.. I don't know if they ever got it to run.. I know you can make a "D18"... Z6 block, D17 crank, d17 rods, bore, Custom pistons.. You have to turn the stub of the d17 crank down to fit the Z6 block. It was a pretty cool set up and made pretty good power.

Its going in a mini and they sell subframes for D, B, and K series but some engines fit better than others. With some you have to make it a flip front because it wont set in properly. With the d16z6 you don't have to do very much to make it fit that is one of the reasons I am going with that engine. Im going D because I don't need much power and they are cheaper.
