Forgive This One Brief Moment of Mushiness
Karl and I wanted to publicly thank Jack and all the guys for the cards and the stopwatches. That was more appreciated than you know.
OK, now back to messing with cars and ****.

This won't be quite so brief.
This was one hell of a weekend - I'd go so far as to say it was the best two days of my life. Time spent with good friends doing something that I love is always good, but something about this weekend was just extra special. Some of my own favorite moments:
- You guys totally snowed me with the DOTY award, it means a LOT. I've been holding it up against the walls of my house, trying to find the best place for it.
- Scott, had I been the guy doing the trophy orders for season-end stuff, it would have been you getting the surprise, not me. You efforts are tireless, your abilities (on AND off the track) are amazing. We make a great team, and I'm very proud to have you as a partner in this, and more importantly, as a friend.
- Jack's words at the beginning of the trophy ceremony damn near got me all soft and emotional, and thinking back on that night, I still get that way. I've spent time just looking at the card you all signed.
- On Sunday, positions 3 through 10 were separated by half a second
- Applause from the spectators as we closed up the season with what was apparently the best race of the year
- Having friends from around town come up to watch on both days and not be disappointed...
- ...and FINALLY finding my a-game for a whole weekend
I know the "Not East Coast People" are probably tired of seeing all this ECHC stuff but I can't help it. It really is that cool.
OK, now that I've got that off my chest...anyone wanna buy an Autopower bolt-in roll cage?

Any of you guys that haven't spent quality, laid back time with Karl, you are truly missing out. When he's not all stressed out and ****, he's the funniest person I know.
His description of looking over and seeing me in his passenger window in turn 1 lap 1 had everyone laughing so hard they were crying. And it was so simple...
<Karl voice on> "Oh, Excellent." <Karl voice off>
See, it's not funny here. But it certainly was classic when it came out of his mouth.
I'm actually going to miss being around that guy for the next few months.

I will 100% backup what Scott said about Karl. If you haven't, you really need to come to a DE sometime when Dr. Shultz is "on" and just listen for a while. Very nice.
And not to leave out the "better half," if Scott's worked 10% as hard at this racing stuff as Karl has, then he deserves a medal (if for nothing else than putting up with Shultz all season).
-Matt
PS - Shultz, how's the 2CV liking it's new home?

Scott, Karl...
You guys earned much more than we can ever give you in return. Thanks so much for coordinating this with NASA, and giving us a place to play! It's a wonderful feeling to be able to go out and race, but it's nothing like the feeling of being able to go out and race with the closest group of friends you have. Our series isn't just a group of Winners and Losers, but a group of close friends, who know how to have a good time! Thanks Again.

I echo what JasonB said. I would have never come to Honda-Tech if I weren't involved in this truly remarkable series. It has given me the chance to race my "tweener car" in a really competitive series-something the other anti-honda sanctioning body would not offer. I don't know if I will even be checking up on the forum for the next few months since their won't be any Honda-Challenge BS to discuss
or look at.
Anyway, I can honestly look back and say that this has been the best year of my life (despite the past two race weekends--hehe). I have worked, lived for, and attended every race weekend this year and cannot wait to see what '03 echc will be like. As a inaugural year veteran, I feel priveleged to have been part of this series. I honestly don't know how next year could be better (maybe less **** will break and I will win more races), but it will certainly be BIGGER without doubt.
Thanks again Scott and Karl and everyone else involved!
