91 accord 2.2 in sand rail
im building a small sand rail. I just so happen to have a 91 accord as a donor car. so far the build is going good but i have a few questions. i am pulling the wiring harness out and would like to trim the fat... anybody know what i dont need? all i want out of the harness is the motor to run. don't care about lights horn etc. its a manual trany non vtec 2.2. f22a THANKS!
Well you will need the harness out of a 90 or 91 with a manual. The 92-93 accords have a different dizzy. ( I am assuming your sand car is not going to be auto) And what tranny are you going to run? Are you going to use like a Mendeola?
an "off-road," not street-legal build i suppose wouldn't need any of the emission control stuff. you'll need to run a chipped ECU (i think most guys I've seen doing these types of builds do this) that eliminates these components. I would get rid of the EGR valve and block that off, loop all of the small bypass hoses from the manifold, loose the charcoal canister and brackets for A/C and P/S.
as far as the harness, the engine subharness won't have much that's not needed to run other than coolant temp and oil pressure switch... but i would keep those. if you're using the chassis harness from the ECU to the engine subharness, you may be able to cut some stuff out of that. just trace out all of the wires running to the engine sub harness, fuse block and main relay and eliminate all the excess.
you do have a service manual with wire diagram right..? refer to that for anything i've missed.

if you run the stock computer KEEP the egr as it helps the engine run cooler and all teh fuel mapping as well as ignition timing maps are based on it working. if you want to remove it run a chipped p06.
other than that i agree with hondamark35

I have the whole car. was tore up, but motor and tranny and front end were good. I plan on using stock tranny and shafts. and some of the suspension components, not 100% on that part. so im safe to cut off anything that doesnt run from the fuse box to the engine bay? im going to try and run a stock computer for now, and once the buggy is up and going and i know im happy with the power, i will trim out the egr, and get a new computer.
