So i had to rebuild my d16z6 due to some blown ringlands. And Now im to the point of putting my motor back in and hooking all the wiring up and i run across this little black box(pic below). Half the wires were already disconnected from my wiring harness(pic below). My question is, What is this and do i really even need it??
My d16 is turbo'd. its runnig mitsubishi injectors. Im wondering if this is what the little black box is for. Any help would be nice..

 

resistor box so the injector will work... alot of people use dsm injectors

 

Yes looks like you have dsm injectors and a resistor box(which I do believe they require). Not really sure about the wiring for it, have you had the car running like that at all?

Its on a del sol. Okay, well heres my next question.. my wiring harness has 8 wires and the resistor box has 5....how ya hook that up?

 

Check it. On the resistor box. Four are power to the injectors and one ground. On the harness. Four are for power to the injectors and four are ground. Think about it.

 

I have not had the car running yet so, not sure if it will work without it

 

Don't, it won't, and you could possibly do damage. Just be positive you wire it correctly

 

If you do you risk burning up the ECU. At least the injector drivers in the ECU at any rate.

 

Yea thats no good.
But now im looking at it, the resistor is easy to figure out the power and ground. But the hard part is, my wiring harness is all just black and yellow wires. no distinct one that would show the ground wire.

 

Multimeter time.

 

Any other way without multimeter? dont have one handy

If you're working on a car, a multimeter is the second tool you should buy, right behind a reliable socket/ratchet set.

if you run the correct impedance injectors for your ecu you can throw away those dsm 440's and the resistor box. i've ran the dsm's tho, it works if you are on a budget

For future reference & clairity: Injectors are constantly fed +12v switched on one side (yellow w/blk), via the main relay. The other side (multi-colored wires) run directly to the ecu, to the internal injector driver mosfets, which switch them to ground when they need to fire. It's kinda the opposite of how most electrical parts are fed, which is always grounded with a switch connected to +12v.
