Default vtec 4 cylinder engine question

I replaced the engine in my son's 2000 accord and it runs great except for when the engine rev's to about 4K rpms it acts like the rev limitor or something in the ignition cuts the fire off to keep the rpms down.

Any ideas on what this could be? The engine\transmission I bought was a package pulled out of a 1999 accord. We used the origional wiring harness and three of the sensors off the origional transmission as well.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Darrell

Is the check engine light on or flashing at any time during the issue?

i had this problem with a 96 accord....turned out one of sliders (not sure what they are actually called) on top of the intake rollers were off and sitting on top of the roller are rather in the slot they were supposed to be in causing the valve not to open as much as it was supposed to for the fuel map when vtec kicks in keeping it from getting the power from one cylinder... take the valve cover off and look at the top of the intake roller arms, if it is off from where it is supposed to be you will see it easily, bend it back in a little and slide it back into place and it should solve your problem

its in limp mode there should and has to be a check engine light or codes stored in the ecu. before you do ANYTHING pull the codes. your going to end up doing work that people suggest when you can just pull the codes and solve your problem. watch let me give you a list on things that can make this happen. leaking intake gasket, bad injector/s, vacuum leaks, vtec solenoid, vtec pressure switch, compression problems, timing, fuel, etc. see where im going with this? just pull they codes and save your hair *pulling on it from trying to find it*

P1259 being the code for Vtec System Malfunction

P0450 and P0453 indicating there is high voltage problem in the fuel tank pressure sensor

got p1259 a few times after swapping 6th gen motors when got from junkyards or didnt pull myself. first see if all connectors and the solenoid isnt full of sand if not take off the oil pan and bang it out a lil u may be able to see where its bent and caved in by eye but sometimes not. the motor was probably sitting on the pan after they pulled it. like i said i had to do this several times and pulled my hair out before finding this out it worked everytime. oh and make sure you have enough oil to engage vtec (seen happen alot

The other two check your vacuum hose routing around the intake manifold especially by the canister and sensor that is mounted on firewall with a hose coming in from manifold and other going out with the lil plug on it

Does anyone have a photo of where the VTEC sensor is? I also discovered a plug coming out of the firewall on the passenger side near the canister and it isn't plugged in and I can't find a spot to put it either. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Darrell

above the canister do you have a sensor hanging on the firewall on pass side off to left just above throttle body? you should and it should have vacuum hoses and a connector to it. you might have a small black circle connector with hole size of a pen that goes to bottom of head where head meets block in front. i noticed some have one some dont mine now looks like factory blocked it off with a bolt
