Default IMPORT FACE-OFF: Combine FIS and AMP?

We are thinking of combining AMP with FIS and renaming the class. Winning times are very similar and AMP is not very popular at some locations. When AMP is full, it's usually just the same group of racers every event. If we combined the classes/payouts, it would give the AMP guys a place to race and/or variety while also increasing the payouts for both classes, esp FIS.

Your thoughts and suggestions? IFO racers ONLY chime in (no e-racers). What would be a good name to describe this class if it were created?

*By the way, FIS is becoming too big and popular. Rules are looking to be updated soon so more racers will step up to FWD and FIP (62mm turbo limit and one power adder limit).

I vote yes to combining the classes. I will really enjoy a bit of variety, and the chance to race more rounds.

I'm for it. AMP up here in the PNW is a really light class. I think there was only 2 racers in that class at woodburn last month.

couple questions Cliff. How will you enforce the turbo limit? and what are you gonna do with the rwd/awd cars in FIS that run larger then a 62mm?

Actually, let the big turbo AWD/RWD cars run with us in FWD

i kinda like that idea...its a better option than being forced into a pro class with a daily driven 67mm evo

I love the 62mm limit for FIS, especially here in Ohio. Our class would've been so competative had you taken away an evo and 350z that were bth running low 10s/high 9s. I know some people are gonna be hating on this change if it happens, but if people want FIP and FWD to live on then it needs to be done. I always thought it was wierd that 9 second cars were running in the FIS class instead of FWD or FIP. To me it just seems like an easy victory for them, rather then actually competing against cars their own caliber. Nothing against the guys going 9s within the current FIS rule structure, just saying if you want more people to come out and race something needs to be done to encourage it. No one likes going to a racing event, knowing they cant compete right off the bat. Before anyone says "build a faster car" or anything like that, you have to consider that most racers at events such as IFO are on a budget and not backed by huge coorporate sponsors.

AMP with FIS seems like an alright deal. Again I am only speaking for the Columbus event but I believe there was only 1 AMP car and that honestly should've been in AMS he just doesnt have rear interior, yet only runs 13.9s (gsr swapped eg). If you get rid of AMP wouldnt that open up a spot for another class? Maybe you could give the 67mm guys their own class, fwd, rwd, awd...let em all run together.

I know I am just some nobody from central Ohio but I enjoy racing as much, if not more then a lot of people on here. FIS and True Street have gotten so out of hand that I am conteplating a bigger turbo and going FWD, atleast then I would feel better about losing haha.

I messaged Cliff this same idea as me and some of my buddies who race at IFO events were talking.

AMP/FIS= Cars going 10.30/10.50 and slower (qualifying needs to be 13.99)
SFWD= 10.29 and faster cars even all motor cars that run these times (all current rules still applied)
FIP= 10.29 and faster cars (AWD, RWD even FWD if they wanna run here)
AMS= Keep it the way it is
67mm Class= Any car with a 67mm turbo maximum

Just an idea, no one has to really listen to me as I said, just some nobody from Ohio haha.

Whats the racer counts in other states for certain classes? I know FWD here had 3 cars to begin wth and then 1 other moved over from FIP.

it's FIS and AMP rules which have always been on the website. Regular IFO racers know the rules. Again, only those who actually compete, chime in. You are the ones we want to hear from and accommodate. IFO classes/rules are built around the cars that actually come out, not the "what if" situations.

turbo size checked at tech when needed as usual.

guyfromnerk, I agree with you for the most park, but not enough cars for a 67 only class. That would also just take away from FWD and FIP again. We want fewer, fuller classes.

The 67mm class was just an idea as I mentioned, maybe its something that could be kept in back of your mind should the racer counts get back up to where another class is needed at some point.

Two high 9 and 10 second evos from our camp that compete in fis at every local ifo event run 67mm turbos and i know of another 10 second evo that competes and is considering a 67mm turbo...it would suck for those guys street cars to get stuck with outlaw cars like ks and speedfactory..they could never compete in fip...thats why i think allowing them into fwd would be a better solution if you want to restrict turbo size to 62mm in fis..

I actually like that idea quite a bit. Reminds me of the old Quick class from the late 90's in IDRC.

For safety reasons, I would say yes. I know that the guys that I see going fast enough down at KC had them.

The 67mm Evos at other IFOs are running high 8s on slicks and winning FIP.

the reason I ask is that we usually have to cut some of the interior to install a cage. At the Houston IFO I don't think a single car had a cage. I managed to run 11.5x in eliminations on low boost to get the win because the only person that qualified quicker than me couldn't run consistent and got eliminated before the final.

if there is now a 62mm turbo limit in FIS then most of really "fast" cars would be bumped into FIP or FWD.

I have no problem running AMP cars as long as they don't have a problem running my CRX with full interior and a cage in FIS.

btw the Houston EVO's won't be winning FIS any time soon.

No offense, but thats BS...there are only a couple(awd motorsports,STM,Joeys junkbox evo come to mind) that have run 8's in the entire country on a 67mm t3 turbo, they arent all that consistent either...most of them run mid-high 9's and 10's which is what the fwd class typically runs...at least locally..you might as well allow outlaw cars to run fwd...the racing would be closer than watching low 8 sec race cars run through a field of 10 sec street cars
