Icon2 Strange clutch fail. HELP, ADVICE please

A month ago i bought a 99 civic, drove it home (60 miles) and got to a stop light, no peddle pressure and rattling. Slammed it into 3rd and rev up to get home. Mean while I had to fix tps sensor and hooked up a new ecu. All of a sudden the clutch was engaging and I was driving it (60 miles) then repeat. At a light and engine struggled and shakes and grinding noise and rattle in trans. Had to slam into gear to get back home again.
If it happened once, how did the problem just go away and drive fine for 60 miles then start again? And what could it be a spring in the pressure plate or a throwout bearing? The slave cylinder is doing its job just fine.
