I changed the factory alternator on my 86 Accord over to a 98 Civic alternator, mainly because of changing the mounting location, but I would like to upgrade this to the higher output one, I bought an alternator on E-gay, I'm not even sure if it's good yet because the car still has a lot of work to go, I understand there is a kit to rebuild these alternators to a higher output, and there is supposed to be an SI alternator also, The one I ordered was for a 98 civic DX, Is there a way to identify exactly which one they sent me? and if it's the dx, what is my amperage output? I've already built the harness with high quality 6 gauge cable, so thats not going to be an issue,

bump Ok the alternator I installed was from a 98 civic LX, or was supposed to be, can someone verify the amperage output of this and what the amperageout on the SI version of this would be?
I wasn't aware any of the Civic's were different. All have an 80AMP battery fuse which would lead me to believe 80AMPS is the most they put out? I believe there are companies that make a 150AMP alternator, if anything the car audio guys would know.

I saw some 130 amp ones for the del sol of the same year, but I don't know if thats aftermarket or factory they were on egay
They are rewound stock alternators. They say as much in the descriptions. I have been running a 165 amp alternator for 6 years now. Bought it off of Ebay from a reputable seller with impeccable feedback.

I guess the main reason for the upgrade is I have a lot of electrical load, I got some stereo comments etc in another thread like this, I'm not running a huge stereo or anything like it, I have high powered aux lights on the bumper for one thing, I live in an area where 15 minutes out of town, you are in extremely rural farm country,so the lights can be a lifesaver. I also have items such as the MSD and the aux fan for the oil cooler blower, along with some other high current drawing items. I got rid of the AC, but even in stock form, with a full electrical load the alternator was running at max or near it. I went with the civic one because the factory one had to move out of the stock location, The fuel outlet pipe on one of the SU fuel bowls sat directly above it, They tend to leak,so thats a really bad combination, The civic one had a pulley that matched the AC pulley grove, so it's mounted in the AC compressor location. I don't want to run the civic alternator near max because it really shortens up their life, if I can run one of these 130 amp ones at half load, it will run much cooler
I also saw someone mention the 200 amp conversion was putting out 15+volts, does anyone know if the 130 amp puts out that high of a voltage? The odyssey battery doesn't do well over 15 volts

do you remember who it was from and what does your output voltage average?
