I have a 00 civic ex coupe, when i turn the ac on my car drives a hell of alot slower, its a 5 speed. It drives great when ac is off but when its on my car runs rougher, i can hear the exhaust rattling and the car in general just idles rougher. The ac is ice cold and blows great but i lose alot of acceleration when ac is on, any ideas as to what it could be? The car is a 5 spd conversion with a d15 dual vtec swap if that help any, i changed to 5 spd ecu and intake mani, but still has auto harness in it hooked up

Shouldn't have bought a Civic.

 

Went from 350$ + a month in gas to 120$ tops so itll pay for itself in a bit over a year, had a crown vic thing sucked gas

 

This is why I bought my del sol. I went from filling up for $100 a week in my 97 ram 1500 4x4 to maybe $30 a week max. Sometimes even less if I'm not getting on shifting low. My buddies Civic EX does the same as yours though. Just don't worry. If your hood is vibrating or noisy a little, then lift the rubber pads a little bit more and you should be good to go.

 

Lol i hear ya man, my hoods fine, my exhaust is just mounted barely off my bumper so when it starts to rough idle i think thats whats shaking and making the noise, i just noticed though when ac is off and engine is hot i idle at 500-800 rpm, same conditions but ac on i only idle around 200 rpm, is that normal as well?

 

Normal. And the tachs on these things is not very accurate.

The AC puts a big load on the car, many cars will run like that but a little 4cyl you feel it more.

yea....a/c is great, blows cold, and makes the car feel like a 50 hp lawnmower.


gas mpg is great though

 

I just roll the windows down and stick my arm out the window. It's too painful to use the A/C on a 1.6L.

a 50hp lawnmower? have you ever driven one? me and my friend rigged a 40hp suzuki outboard boat motor to a lawnmower when we were like 15, and i bet that thing would kill a k swapped eg in the 1/8th mile

we blew the transmission up after 2 days haha

 

yeah this is why i did an A/C delete. haha no since of keeping it if its paintfully slow to drive

 

With or without A/C Civics are still slow.

Nice to hear i wasnt the only one wonderin about the A/C and massive loss of power. Thats why i took it out. And the fact that everytime i turned the defrost on, the a/c would come on. annoying but its gone now so whatever.

 

why would you delete a/c? it's on a clutch so it basically has no draw on the system when it's off.

 

How much power do you people think you free up by deleting A/C? Seriously. And all you have to do is hit the A/C button if you wanted to run the defroster without the A/C. No way in hell I'm getting rid of A/C for some imagined weight savings/power recovery. Summer is no time to be without it.

Oh! Check this. If you're running A/C and need the power back that it's leeching, use that A/C button again! Turns off A/C. No draw on engine. All your "power" when you need it. Every time I drive in my wifes hatch I have to do this anytime I run the A/C and want to pass or am going up a steeper hill.

I feel more of a power increase when I turn off my AC and cruise at light throttle than if I was going into VTEC with my foot to the floor haha
