Basic questions about intake on stock d16y8
I wanted to toss on a cold air intake on my 99 civic ex coupe for better throttle response, mileage, and a bit more power. But I've been hearing alotta crap about cold air intakes being pointless on a stock d16. I do plan on giving it a tune up when I install the intake, as well as a new spark plugs and a high-flow cat on the exhaust side. I just wanted to know what the actual effects of the intake would be. I would get the largest intake that will fit on a stock d16y8 throttle body. Just wanna know before I buy. Thanks.
YOu will shift your powerband higher up in the RPM range but not make any real power. That's about it. Letting it breath will net you a little better gas mileage. Doesn't matter how big of an intake you get.
if you cant sleep without having some sort of aftermarket intake on your d series, just buy the cheapest piping there is, and throw on a nice air filter (i like k&n) and call it a day.
i have a d16y7 in my hatch, and i saw a consistent 7mpg gain with a warm air intake and a high flow muffler. i drive the same path to work each day, the same speed, and shift at the same points.
