1994 Honda Accord Changing Wheel Size from 14" to 15" ?
I have a 1994 Honda Accord LX. It has the original 14" wheels on it. Can I put 15" wheels on it, such as the kind that came with the EX without causing any major problems? I realize I might have some minor issues, like re-calibrating my speedometer.
The 1994 Honda Accord LX tire size is 185-70-14. Every year less and less tires are made for that size, especially when it comes to snow tires. When I speak with any mechanic or tire salesman, they laugh and say my size is obsolete. They don't even make Blizzaks (any type) for this size.
I did some research online and found that the LX only came with 14" wheels. However, the EX came with 15" wheels and size 195-60-15 tires. The 195-60-15 tire size is MUCH more common. Blizzaks and many other tires are available in the 195-60-15 size that are not available in the 185-70-14 size.
I do not want to lower my car like a street rod nor do I want to jack it up like a monster truck.
Thank you.

You certainly can change your wheels from 14" height to 15" without effecting the speedometer. The trick is getting tires that are similar (if not identical) in overall diameter. The 195/60/15's you mention are extremely close (less than .1% difference) in overall diameter, so you will not see any difference at the speedometer. I don't know how far you want to go with the changing of your wheels, but you could go so far as to get some lighter 15" wheels (like an SSR Type-C or Konig EcoLite) and save money on gas due to a lighter rolling mass (it can make a significant difference).
Thank you for the info and tips!
I don't think the speedometer is worth recalabrating for a fraction of a percent...that is good to know. I never would have thought about wheel weight affecting mpg, either, but that makes sense, too.
