Stumped on 99 Civic Coupe Passenger Power Window Failure
Hi especially to you electrical systems experts out there. I've found a few similar problems on this forum as my own, but nothing with a complete solution.
Last week I rolled my passenger power window down on a nice sunny day, vacuumed out my car, and then tried to roll it up and it would not roll up. That window has never given me a problem before, so I was very surprised.
Using the service manual, I started troubleshooting.
The driver's side window switch will operate the driver's side window, but not the passenger's side window. This rules out the under-hood fuse (which I checked anyway and it is good) and I believe this also rules out the control unit that is built into the driver's side switch (which I think only effects the driver's side window anyway) as well as the relay under the dash (which I also tested).
The passenger's side window switch will not operate the passenger's side window.
I tested the passenger's side window switch for continuity and it is conducting electricity in the up and down positions. Switch = good
Under-dash 20A fuse #10 is not blown. Fuse = good
I tested the driver's side switch for continuity and it is also conducting electricity in the up and down positions. Switch = good
I applied direct power to the passenger's side power window motor via the 2P connector inside the door and the window rolled up just fine. I tried to roll it down the same way and it rolled down and back up again with no problems. Motor = good
The service manual has no information on the power window relay, but being stumped and based on what I read on this forum and elsewhere I pulled the power window relay from under the dash and tested it for continuity, but that process gives me a number reading and not just a straight continuity "yes power flows through" or "no it doesn't". I would have to pull the relay again for specific readings (and it's a nightmare to pull due to the way it's secured by its clip) but I will do so if needs be.
As a last-ditch effort I tried using two short jumper wires in several configurations on the motor-side of the passenger window 5P connector to get the window to roll down with the ignition on, but all I got was a clicking sound from the motor.
Anyone know what is going on with this system? I am stumped.
Below are the relevant page #'s from the service manual I used.

Try this, go to the driver's door open it, you will see a black boot between fender and door. Pull it back to expose the wires.
Go through all of them to see if any are broken.
If not repeat on passenger side.
Report back.

RonJ@HT - That was it. I feel like an idiot. Well, half an idiot. I tested that, but the passenger's side switch was disconnected that time. I guess they're wired in series and I didn't think to plug the passenger's switch back in when I had the strange feeling that I might have just child-proofed myself. Thank you. That's a huge weight off of my mind.
motogicivic - I detailed the whole interior. I must have bumped it when I was wiping down the door panel. Thanks for your help troubleshooting. I do appreciate it.
