Default Crower 63422 (Stage 2) Cams

I'm rebuilding a H22 and I am trying to get some info on these cams. Searches are not turning up much so I thought I'd try starting a thread and see if anyone here knows anything about them. . .

Does anyone have before/after dyno numbers? Does anyone have these cams in their daily driver? I heard that there is an old version and a new version of this cam. Does anyone know about this? How do they compare to the Type S cams that a lot of people are using? Any info would be appreciated!

There are three. One for use with turbo (63421T), stock idle lobes (63422A) that does not require springs and retainers, and the stage2 cams that require springs and retainers (63422). I would tend to favor the one with stock idle lobes but then I have no idea what you are going to be using your car for. I had the stage1 cams on my prelude before I took them out to go turo.

This is with intake, exhaust, Crower stage1 cams, and Skunk2 cam gears. Red is after cam gear tuning and blue is before cam gear tuning. Look at the difference in power in the mid range and not the peak power.

Sorry but I don't have a before dyno and the ones I had were stage1 cams. I would imagine stage2 cams will give you a bit more power. Also you are going to need cam gears for tuning purposes.

It actually looks like there are SIX H22 designs from Crower (amazed myself seeing that many for our engine). Replacement/turbo, stage 1, stage 2 turbo, stage 2 NA, stage 2 street (stage 2 VTEC lobes w/ stock non-VTEC lobes), and stage 3 NA drag profile. They also do some custom grinds if you want.

You can find some stock 5th gen dynos at prelude.vtec.net/performance.

Anubyss: What model Prelude do you have?

I have a 97 base and I mentioned three since he was asking about the stage2 models hehe. It was a noticeable gain but I've gone turbo so out it went. I put the stock ones back in. I might have gotten away with leaving them in there but just to be on the safe side (and getting a little cash back), I decided to sell them.

Thanks for the posts guys! I knew someone here had tried them. I ordered a set of stage 2 cams and the spring kit. The cams seem to be on back order til january though. Anyone else here tried them?

neonrtgirl are you serious about building your sohc?

anyway i know that skunk 2 makes adjustable cams for f22a. but i don't think that its gonna be worth it. for all the bolt ons that you have, might as well do a swap..

oops... i was thinking about the cam gears..

There is no such thing as adjustable cams, you may mean cam gears which will not net in much/any power on an f22.

If someone wants to build an f22, go for it. I've seen some wicked fast sohc's handling 30+ lbs of boost. Is it the best platform to work off of? maybe not but no need to flame someone over their choice.

that dyno is strange. I always thought cams cost you low-mid torque, and gave you high end hp. doesn't really appear that way in the dyno.
whosever dyno that is did you raise you vtec engagement?? thats what it looks like on the dyno. guess its possible to get torque just all in your tuning...

oh yeah apexii... f22b boost is ok but did you say f22a boost? dang... i've been looking for that for like forever.. but sucks.. too late i already have my eyes on the h22a..

I could not get this link to work:

prelude.vtec.net/performance

Are these dynos of H22's with crower cams?

dsludefosho, the vtec engagement point was not changed. It looks as if it's kicking in at 4900-5000 but it was not altered. I don't know about losing torque when you get cams in mid range. I gained a significant amount. Perhaps it's all dependent on the 'stage' of cam. I had the stage1 Crower cams.

I tried ordering the cams awhile back myself and started this thread

You might find some useful info.
I ended up ordering skunk2 stage 2 cams instead.

What is your impression (dyno? yes? ) of the Skunk2 cams? Which stage did you get?

Yes, I'm wondering also. NO ONE speaks up (what gives?) about their H22A cam results. But thanks to the very few of you who have.

I have the skunk2 stage 2 cams but my engine is not running right now so I can't really comment on the performance of the cams. As soon as I finish building the engine hopefully before the end of the month I'll post up my dyno results.
But I was trying to say before was that I tried to get the crower stage 2 cams but since they a re on back order for months to come I had no choice but to get the skunk2 cams instead. They are a little more expensive than the crowers but a lot easier to find. Good luck.

Should we post this thread in the Tech forum maybe? Might get some replies from people who have dyno results...

Do you remember what your cam gear setting were? I know mine may be different, but I'm just curious...
