Default welding ebay stainless piping to restaurant stainless?

I am tinkering with welding stainless. I just want to know if restaurant grade stainless will weld to 304 ebay stainless piping? The scrap yard has some equipment from a restaurant, like kitchen counter tops. I am thinking of making my own muffler from sheet metal. I would use the ebay stainless piping for the inlet and outlet. The piping is not very magnetic.

possibly the oddest question i've heard, however kind of interested. i don't see any reason why not, so long as the counter top material is of a good thickness. because it is kitchen grade, and needs to be sanitary, i would recommend cleaning and scuffing it thoroughly to get rid of any special protectants or coating that are applied during the manufacturing process. then take a few small pieces of each material and start playing around with them to see how they react to the weld

i believe restaurant grade stainless is 316. 316 will weld to 304 no problem. you can use either 308, 309 or 316 filler. Austenitic grades of stainless are not magnetic. and for the most part they do not have any coatings on 316 for use in restaurants but you should be cleaning the area you will be welding anyways so you shouldn't have any problems.

more info on diferent grades of stainless here. http://www.azom.com/article.aspx?Art...netic_Response
