Default Hard decision on power steering, help?

I want to just get rid of all my power steering assembly but there is the other part of me that is telling me to just get a pulley. What should I do?

I wouldn't want to autoX w/ PS removed on an R. We just removed PS from pyromasteR's car and it's rather pain in the butt to make sharp turn at low speeds (< 10mph). At speeds, it feels ok, but I don't think it's that great.

if you can only use one arm and got to rehab three days a week where you have to drive around a parking garage I say don't take off your power steering! If you parallel park alot don't do it.

It is somewhat hard when you drive around parking lots, but look at it this way..... you get a good arm workout everytime you drive.

it isn't bad when you are moving.

as far as auto cross?

take off your belt and drive around for a week. just flow around the streets a little bit. 1/4 it without....

then put it back on for a week and drive around.

take into consideration your 1/4 times and the hassles of slow driving and also the feel when at decent speeds.

the biggest decision will be if you can down shift to second as you are flying around a corner and be able to turn fine with the one hand.

right now I can't because my left arm is horseshit, but I think if I was normal it would be fine.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=184202&page=1 <---this is how you get rid of the power steering. You won't like this mod for Auto-X but road racing it is a different story since you are up to speed and never drop below 2nd gear.

If you want to "start autocrossing?" Then leave the PS alone.

Start your autocrossing now and make a decision this winter to try it without the PS next season, but, not on your first event next season, maybe your second or third so you can first get totally addicted to racing your car, and next allow you to make an educated decision by yourself.

If you have to ask us like this? Then just take off the belt between runs at a local auto-x in the last few events of this season. Just make certain that without the belt is Not your first run!

IMHO, but I'm biased...

I've done one autox with no PS. It sort of sucked. But whatever...autox only serves to keep me entertained between track days. On track, I love not having power steering.

We should make an agreement NOW that we are trying to get him there OK?

Sound good?

I pulled it, it feels great at high speeds especially on highways. Kind of sucks going on a road course ESPECIALLY with R compound tires.

Car is a pain to try and turn while standing still.

What?? I thought my steering had a much better feel without the power steering...it wasn't really any harder to turn while on course, and it has much better feedback now.

I fully agree with your second comment.

I've driven 4 auto-x's with my PS off and its fine. All depends on the tires though. If you have some cheapo soft sidewall tires it will be a pain in the butt to turn at low speeds.
