Default New info for B-series guys looking for cheap synchros

I'm not sure if anyone ever made this observation before, but '92 - '00 D-series 1st/2nd synchros are the same as B16A Hydro 3rd/4th synchros. Personally tested/confirmed.

Why does this matter? You can buy a '92 - '00 D-series trans (especially if there's something wrong with it) for under $40 most of the time) the 1st gear synchros are almost always good.

The trans I was working on is a Y21 B16A with OEM 14 bolt viscous LSD if it matters.

in a B16A 1st is unique, 2nd is unique and dual cone. 3rd/4th are the same, 5th is unique.

Majestic Honda wants $181 for a B16A 3rd/4th sleeve, hub and snychros. It's about double that over here in Canada. Only the D-series snychros are the same, if you need a hub or sleeve you're still screwed.

I'll concur 88-00 SOHC FWD D 1/2 are the same as BVTEC 3/4. Figured this out sometime in 06, someone else probably sooner than that. Good info for people to know though, add it to the FAQ.

While neat information, you can source a brand new brass synchro for the same price as the trans you mention, it'll be 100% new guaranteed, and you didn't have to put any labor and time into the tear down of the trans and countershaft. For me, not quite worth it IMO. LOL

Aren't the 3/4 D-series 96-00 EX synchros the same as the B-series 5th, too? Or is it any non 96-00 EX 3/4 synchro? I don't mess with SOHCs too much so unsure but I thought there was more interchangeability than just this.

Most of the D-series trans I acquired were flat out free. I can have one apart enough to get the synchros off the countershaft in 15 - 20 minutes. Just saying, some of us have a ton of that stuff laying around.

No they're smaller, I checked. Also all 3rd/4th D-series synchros are the same. That's one of the nice things about them. 1st and 4th synchros are usually good, get two trans and you have enough synchros, sleeves and hubs are all the same too between trim levels.

Does this only apply to b series hydro transmissions or does it also apply to b series cable transmissions? Sorry to bring up old threads.
