i have a 96 itr trans in my ek with 96 itr swap, id reccomend a b16 trans (cheaper) and an ls 5th, going down the road at 60 at 4k pisses me off, and for a clutch either oem itr clutch or exedy stage 1

the 98 spec has better ratios. b16 1-3 and gsr 4-5 with the 4.7fd. get that one.

B16 trans (other than CTR) has a smaller diff, no LSD, only 2nd gear has a double cone synchro, etc. In other words it's cheaper for a reason.

the 98 spec would have higher cruising rpms because of the shorter final drive

98 itr = 70mph @ ~3700rpm
gsr = 70mph @ ~3400rpm

play around with this and see what you'll be at: http://www.teammfactory.com/gear-calculator

It's actually about the same. Early ITR has shorter (B16) 4th and 5th gears. 98+ has a shorter final drive with longer (GS-R) 4th and 5th gears. Cruising RPM is a wash. Acceleration from 1st through 3rd is where the '98 spec ITR trans really shines.

was going off what the gear calculator showed. i do agree that a few rpm difference cruising isnt a big deal. for me anyway.
