car drove fine till the other day, died at the red light. thinking its a transmission issue i can turn car off start it up and drive to about 20mph or for about a min or so then it will feel like its out of gear and the rpm will rev up. i can turn the car off and do the whole processes over again and get the same out come. just needing to confirm the issue before i spend the cash on the parts. thanks

any check engine lights? flashing drive light? how does the transmission fluid level/color look?

 

i do have a cel, fluid level looks good, small shop said it was speed sensor but i was not able to double check the code to make sure they where right yet.


and if it was just a speed sensor shouldn't the car still drive just the speedo off?

 

My car is at the transmission shop now and it turns out I have the same symptoms. What the shop told me is that dirt is clogging up the filter after driving then when you shut it off it falls down so you can drive it for a few minutes before it does it again. my car was so bad when it happened it felt like someone put my car in neutral.

 

well there are multiple speed sensors on the auto trans, if one fails the car may stop too keep it from damaging itself because it doesn't know the speed of the car/trans shafts.
