96 Civic/jdm cluster -- Back lights not working on cluster
Well some lights do like the cel and high beams but not at night when i need the speedo and fuel gauge. Its a 96 civic ex. previous owner said he switched out the cluster for a jdm cluster but "failed" to tell me bout the lights not working
Ive seen vids for an accord about using a paper clip to transfer power between wires All i need is a diagram for the ex and ill should be good to go if thats wat the problem is. might be a fuse according a forum i read but if one light works on the cluster then the rest should so it cant be the fuse. Any help would be appreciated Thank you in advance

Were not exactly sure if it is jdm The previous owner lied about alot of things in the car. But its the cluster with the km on the tach. Im not sure if theyre all like that. I checked the fuse under the steering wheel and theyre all good. I replaced the dimmer and nothing So im guessing it has to do with power to the lights or the circuit board. I wanted to use the paper clip method to transfer power to the bulb I just dont know where i would connect it to on the back of the plug.

If you read battery voltage, use the paperclip to short the red wire to the blk wire in the connector to see whether the cluster lights come on.
By the way, do the climate control back lights work?
Use a multimeter to check whether installed fuse 30 has voltage on both of its top test tabs with the light switch on.
If fuse 30 has voltage on both top tabs, then unplug the dimmer switch, and use a multimeter to check whether you read battery voltage between the red/blk wire and blk wire terminals in the free connector with the light switch on.

I'm going to perform this test tonight because i have all of the above symptoms. It started a couple of months ago where my climate control lights would work intermitantly and now the won't go on at all including the gauge cluster lights and now my fuel gauge stoped working.
You seem to know what you're talking about RonJ@HT... Please tell me the solution? I suspect it's a bad dimmer switch but why would my fuel gauge stop working? By the way I have a 92 Civic dx hatchback

I went out to do my test. I got to the point where I did the paper clip short and the Climate control lights lit up. My only dilema now is when I pulled out the paper clip a piece of the pin from the connector on the red wire fell out. So could this be the problem and not the dimmer switch?
I'm going to de-pin it tonight when I get home and replace it with a pin off a connector that I'm no longer using and put the dimmer switch in again. I hope it was just a bad pin and I don't need to buy a new dimmer switch.

I was wrong RonJ@HT... I guess that's what I get for trying to test illumination in the day, outside. I did not get any climate control lights when I used the paper clip short red to black wire trick. So does that mean it's not the dimmer switch?
I replaced the pin in the connector anyway but that was'nt the issue. Any suggestions?
