97 Civic HX swapping head and timing questions
Okay, so background - crashed my HX and then found another one a day later with a weird motor problem so I bought that one.
I've taken the head from the crashed HX and put it on the one that I just bought but I'm concerned that I may not have done the timing right...
When I got the new HX, the Cam Gear was spinning freely so I had no idea how to set the engine to TDC so when we pulled the head off of it I just set it so the #1 piston and #4 piston are at the top of their stroke. However, I was able to set the crashed HX's head to TDC (By having the Cam gear have UP facing straight up.)
Now that I've got the crashed HX's head on the new motor and have the timing belt all on I went ahead and rotated the crank a bunch of times and it doesn't seem like there was any real tough resistance - so should it be good to go? What other ways can I check to make sure that the motor is timed correctly? A lot of guides (Especially the one that came with the new timing belt) are extremely confusing.
I do have a timing light to fix the timing if it's off by a little bit but I just don't want to crash the valves into the pistons.
