STR 570 Cam Gears, degree marks?
I went to IDRC today in Phoenix, it was pretty cool except for the track was kinda crappy from what I heard. Pretty windy, but in all a good trip. Anyways, I was passing by the STR trailer and they had a bunch of stuff for sale. My friend was looking to get some cam gears anyways, and they had a few pairs there. My friend got a pair, they were only $100 for the pair. I was like damn, I went and got a set for myself since I was looking for some new ones. I had one bolt strip out on one of my Hayame's. Anyways, the degree marks are like none I've seen before. If anyone has seen the STR gears, they know what I mean. For the people that have adjusted or have them, how do you know what 1 degree is? Is it a short notch from 0 degrees? That is what the guys at the booth said, but the gears didn't come with any instructions or anything. I've installed other kinds before, (AEM, Hayame, Skunk2) but none have these unique markings that STR has. Any input? Thanks.
Not sure myself i just won a set on eBay for 160 and i thought I got a steal but damn u robbed them
. 100 bucks for a pair is crazy. I think retail and in stores they go for around 250 to 300 for the new pro ones.

Yes, Normal pairs will retail around 250-400.00. This was an incentive deal that allows you the consumer to obtain the new product at a discounted rate. The correct way to time the gears:
the markers are set up as indivual marks "0" is zero on the inner and outer.
If you wish to set it to 5 degrees advanced then from "0" count 5 marks on the inner and count 5 marks on the outer align the two marks you just degree'd "5"

Original my good friend....We have always stood out from the rest because of innovative style and design. The bolts are aircraft hardware and can stand up to the wear and tear put on them.

check out what spoon has to say about the cam gears

The reasoning behind it is actually excellent. Why would STR use a 12 point bolt head on their cam gears? Simply put, not everyone and their mother will have it. Only a few people will have that tool needed to adjust their cam gears. What does this mean? If you actually KNOW and HAVE a 12pt 1/4" socket, then you may know enough about what the word "tight" vs. "too tight" vs. "lose" is... If regular 10mm bolts were used on there, then every kid around the block may be the new cam gear tuners! How scary can that be?

Very good rule of thumb. Every car is different and adjusting the gears to his or her norm could do more harm than good to your motor. Yes any good tuner shop should have a 1/4" 12 pt Socket for adjustments. Dynamic Autosports and rage Performance to name a couple.
