Default Idle too low?

Hello HT

I have a question, probably one of you would be able to guide me on the right direction. A little background...

Not too long ago I did a auto to manual conversion. I had broken my knock sensor and I did not change the intake manifold nor the throttle body therefore I had a jumpy idle from 1~2 I believe. I got to autozone to pull the codes and I had Knock, iacv, tps and map.

Long story short the car was still drivable, I was able to let off half clutch and have some power. Now I finally complete the conversion by repairing the knock and changing the manifold and throttle body. No Check engine Yay! and the idle is beautiful somewhere in the 500.

The problem now is that if I let of the clutch like before the car turns off. When I play with it it doesnt have power at all. So little that it would roll back on a hill, if I let it go more then the car stalls.

Is it supposed to be that way? What would be your recommendation? Is this due to the idle? Can I configure it so It would Idle so I would have a little more power to be able to take off and park without gasing it , etc.

Thanks in advance.

PS: Civic 97 D16Y8

I'm confused about what the problem is here. Is the transmission in gear when you take your foot off the clutch pedal?

When you play with what?

I think you have problem with the clutch, not your idle...

Sorry, yes, it is when the car is in 1st Gear.

I dont think it has to do with the clutch because it was fine before when the idle was surging from 1-1.5~2. Nothing has been done to the clutch.

The only thing I changed was the intake manifold. Throttle cable perhaps?

What else you guys says?

I still don't understand what the problem is. You need to clearly describe the problem.

With my conversion was the first time I actually learned to drive stick. So since the car had an idle problem and it was taking off stronger than what it would be without problem, I got used to that. Now that everything is fixed I feel it has less power when letting the clutch go half way on 1st. I used to be able to park and take off without giving it gas. Now the car barely moves when I let of the clutch half way.

Sounds normal but I'm pretty sure if you search you should have a way to increase your idle

I think a normal idle should be around 8, since you were idling almost at 2k your car was already was accelerated (if that's a word) so it would just want to take off. You can adjust the throttle cable so it idles at the correct rpm.

You need to give the car some gas, and slowly let out the clutch..hence the reason why you didn't need to give it gas before was because the car was already at a RPM that was necessary for the car to move in 1st gear.

Check your vacuum hoses.

Check out some video on youtube - "How to drive stick shift".
You always need to push the gas pedal to begin moving with stick shift.
There is no such thing as "just release the clutch" (just some diesel engines with more torque can do that :-)

Sounds normal, idle on a auto is alittle higher in gear due to stock ecu settings. Example too low on auto it will seem to shake alittle steering wheel might even hop. Hence why it rolls forward when in drive. Manual is set different in the ecu at idle under normal conditions. Been there about tens years back on first swap

Yea, you guys are right. I guess I got used to the fast take off and high idle. Im getting a bit used to the new "settings". I checked my hoses and everything and its fine. I guess more practice and I should be fine Since I either stall (It happens quite often -_-) the car or do burnouts unwillingly.

Thanks a lot for your input.
