Default 98 Honda Civic EX Manual - Type of trans fluid?

I called my local dealer and they told me I could use 10W30 in my manual transmission. This sound right? Is it ok to use synthetic?

i would use either honda MTF or GM synchromesh (i've heard great things about this)

Is there a special additive in the MTF that doesn't exist in standard 10w30? Why not use synthetic?
