Default removing paint from fat 5 GSR wheels

Ok, so i have some fat 5 GSR wheels that are painted black.. i want to remove the paint. i was going to try using aircraft paint remover. but now im wondering, if i remove the paint, will i need to apply clear coat to the wheels after I'm done? is it necessary? or am i good with just stripping the paint off and washing it. i want that factory look back. thanks

You can strip them and polish them without needing to clearcoat, just be sure to keep them clean and polished, especially if you live in a rust-rich environment.

are they cleared in stock fashion? Aircraft remover is gonna take em down to the metal. even a rattlecan clear coat is better than nothing if you think you can do it

They were machined and clear coated from the factory. If you want the stock look, you'll need to re-clear them.

If you want to polish them, then they'll need regular maintenance to keep the look. That isn't how they came, but polished looks better to most people than machined.

but the main reason why i ask is because i don't want my rims to corrode. will polishing them help on corrode the rim? or does alloy just last forever like that haha

Polishing removes any oxidation, but it will come back without a protective coating. Meaning, if you don't want to have to regularly fix them, you'll need either clear paint or a clear powder coat.
