Default tranny question

My wife drives a Auto 98 accord (f23) and her tranny is bad andneeds changed out. Do i have to get another gth gen tranny to fix her issue?
Or can i get a tranny from a 5th gen accord. I never done auto trannys before and nore am I well knowledged about her car. She wants to
stay with the auto and not swap to manule. Any more info i can add, just ask.
Any and all help is welcomed. Thanks
