Default cage questions

I have a buddy that has a 6 point cage in his EG. its already tig welded in and welded to 6x6 floor plates. its within 1/2 all around on the body which is great for fitment. crap for adding bars to. for welds that cannot be welded all the way around, whats the rules on the gusset ? also whats the rule on the D bars ? we're supposed to have a bar go from rocker to rocker and the D bars connect to that ? with the cage in its current configuration. how legal is it or me to add a plate to the rockers and weld/tie that into the 6X6 plate ?

I don't know about gusets, but the d bar thing is easy.

If the lateral bar goes from rocker to rocker the d bars can attach to the lateral bar.
If the lateral bar is between and attached to the main hoop only the d bars need to attatch to 6x6 plates on the "tunnel".

I was told when my cage was cert'd that if you can't get a full weld around you need a gusset on opposing sides, be it another tube gusset or a flat plate and that you can mix and match (plate one one side, tube on the other) as long as there is one on each side of the tube with the incomplete weld.

I believe Competition makes pre-made flat gussets - http://www.jegs.com/pt/Roll+Cage+Gusset

Here's another option, personally I'd rather have these:

Or just notch another piece of tube accordingly (what EGJDM did when he built my cage).

Are you turning it into a 10 point? If youre leaving it as a 6 point. I would do nothing because it doesnt need cert'ed.

Yes. Rocker bars need to attach to 6x6 plates. You can bend the plates to wrap from the rocker down to the floor, and then weld the rocker bar to the rocker portion of the plate.

so that means the rocker bars on this particular vehicle is a no go. because that 6X6 plate needs to include/ wrap up the rocker so i can weld the rocker bars to it. I cant make a small weld plate and weld that to the existing 6X6 plate because that woudlnt be legal correct ?

There should be no problem getting a 6x6 plate back there for the lateral bar. Mig it in.

No, just make sure when you remove the bar to make sure you grind as little as possible to make it smooth. Dont want to fail the sonic test because there isnt enough meat left.
