Default [85$]1990 Civic STD Project

So today I got a 90 STD for 85$ today. I was going to pay 400$, but then the engine 'blew' (still runs, but burns oil like a mothertrucker.) Then the dude's buddy apparently hit a bolder when he was unloading it from the trailer.

So it needs a new radiator, a new rad support, a new driver side fender, and some minor other repairs. Oh and of course a rebuilt / new engine.

The car was built in Canada.
It also came with Advanti Racing Rims, only 1 hub cap though.

I am planning on swapping a d16 into the car, since the d15 is pretty much shot. The car may end up turbo'd, or all motor on a bottle.

Here's some pics!

Front end damage

Rad hitting heat plate

Can't see the D, but it says D15b7.. or at least it looks like a 7.

Can't really tell in this lighting, but the fender is dented so bad. Non repairable.

Dirty Interior

Rear

The only visible rust on the car

Advanti Racing Rims

Forgot to take pics of the engine and i'm too lazy to go out and take more..

Cant beat it for 85$, well I guess someone else did lol... Still great deal, you could get more than that if you scrapped it so look on the bright side you can still get rid of it.... If you want to.

Yeah, funny thing is, 85$ is what the scrap yard offered him. He didn't want to go any lower, and since I have known him since like 5th grade, I gave him 85$ for it.

I think that after putting around 1k into the car it should have a new fender, rad support, rad, and engine... and some other goodies.

if its a stock 4speed std model than the engine is a d15b1 70hp and yes any d series tranny will bolt up only problem is that the car uses a cable tranny my suggestion would be to use a hf, si or dx tranny from another ed and those should bolt on, if you go with a newer d series tranny you would need a hydro conversion

Yeah I couldn't tell if it was a 1 or a 7. More than likely I will be replacing the engine with a d16.

I wish there was a bigger selection at my local junk yard.. I have a feeling it may be hard to find some body pieces and radiator support(s).

Yeah I was pretty lucky. Hopefully parts are easy to find for the STD.

Try this place www.lkqcorp.com
We just got one for a 91 CRX so, I hope you can find one.
It's a hell of a start!!
Don't get discouraged though, it's all worth it in the end! Good luck!

Sweet bro thanks for the link.

Had a question, but found out from google.

I have never really done this extensive of work before, so bear with me.

Edit: Searched the site's inventory and apparently they have no parts available for my zip code..

Does anyone know if this will work for my car? Will I still need to have this welded into place?

Doesn't matter where you buy it.
It's still a weld on part. It's only spot welds though so you might be able to get away with using automotive body panel adhesive.
A lot of new cars are using this adhesive instead of welding.
Not sure how or where to order it, but I know it exists.

Invest in a couple spot weld drill bits when you take your old one off. Makes it SO MUCH easier and cleaner than a standard drill.

LOL@ your subject saying beware 56k. Does 56k still exist? Maybe just a Montana thing???

Alright, may look into getting the one on ebay.. none of the yards around me have any ef hatch's.

I just don't have all that much money, and I am horrid at welding, because I never had a welder to practice with, and I am not sure how much a shop would charge to weld it into place.

I will look into getting some spot weld bits. Thanks.

A lot of people in Montana do still have dialup, a lot of companys are not able to run lines in certain places, especially up in the mountains. Where I live (6 miles out of belgrade) you can't get anything faster than qwest, which is supposed to be 1.5mb down/1mb up, but I cap at 160kb/s download and 72kb/s upload. heh

I changed the thread title to "[85$]1990 Civic STD Project" a bit after I made the thread, guess it hasn't changed.

Ok this is really starting to **** me off.

I cannot get the headlights out.
I cannot get the cover for the bumper bolts out.
I cannot get the bumper out.

How the hell do I remove these? All the bolts that need to be removed are in places that something else needs to be removed to get to, but to get to the bolts that hold the things that need to be removed to get to the bolts, there's always something in the ****ing way..?

take off the bumper lights and the bumper support will be connected to the frame then two Phillips on each side by the fender then 2 10s towards the middle under the bumper

Cool, I have the blinkers out, I have the two 10's out that are under the car connecting the rear portion of the bumper to the cross member(?).

So I need to remove the entire bumper support?

If that's the case, I completely understand now...

This is my first Civic/EF so I had no idea that is the way to do it as apposed to my accord which has no cover over the top bumper bolts.

What it looks like now!

Oh.. ****.

Stuff in the back.

Take the bumper support off that is held on with bolts in this picture
Then take another picture of what is underneath - from the bottom of the headlight to the bottom of the car.
