Hey this is for sale locally. What problems should I look for in a 04 RL? Is the auto trans reliable?

Holy crap.. I assumed it was front wheel. Hmm.

 

This is very wrong. The car is FWD, the engine is mounted like a RWD though and it uses a transfer case to transmit power to the front wheels.
With that being said it certainly seems like a nice car and the drivetrains in these RL's are very very reliable. Id say if you feel comfortable driving it than its not a bad deal. The mileage isnt too bad either but it is slightly above average for the year. But Ive seen these run to 300k and beyond without much of a problem

 

The ad says RWD. I'll research it.

 

They're FWD, my brother had one but in tan. I'd say the RL rides like a caddy. so dam smooth and power is great for it. Very torquey to me. I beat on it a lot when I drove it and the trans has held up pretty good. My brother's had his for about 7 years, about 3 years in his ownership and 4 in his in-laws ownership. they still have it today and it's still going strong, easily at 200k+ miles now. Only thing he replaced during his ownership was the radiator. Other than that, it was straight forward. I would love to find one for me to drive as well as I don't like the newer generation RL's. 01?-04 were the best looking RL's to me. Good luck if you pull the trigger on this one.
