hey all, ive got a b16a2 with gsr tranny in my ek hatch, she wont go into 5th gear anymore and if iam lucky enough to get it in 5th gear it pops out once i let off the gas, im guessing the tranny is on its way out? it shifts perfect everyother gear, i checked the fluid and it was very low( previous owner) i added a quart of 10w30 and shifting of other gears improved however the 5th gear remained the same. when i try to put it in gear it grinds and whins bad. im guessing its time to move on am i correct with this what is your guys oppinons. im guessing it was ran low on fluid for to long of a period and the syncros rtc are shot

 

Looks like you burned up the 5th gear. Common on transmissions that have been run low on fluid. I would get it open and see whether or not it is worth fixing. Check the rest of the gears for oil deprivation. The bearings also take a lot and would also suggest taking a close look at them as well.

 

are there any good tutorials on the tranny removal or install process ? i looked around but couldnt find much. and i thought about opening it up but i have never done any internal tranny work. iam a fairly skilled lechanic just not so sure about that,

 

There are a few tutorials floating around this site. Do some searching. I believe HondaBull did one that is pretty informative.

 

Taking it apart is fairly easy...only advice is be carful putting it back together...I've seen alot of people screw up the case by not properly aligning the shift rods
