Adatives anyone? Prolong, Slick 50?
I've been using Prolong in my 1991 accord EX since I got it and it seems to run a lot smoother...I put it in the engine and in the tranny everytime I do an oil change I put the booster in the engine then fill it up with oil...seems to run great and a ton quieter...shifts smoother....I did notice that the oil light seems to come on and off now and then...not anytime specific...mostly at random then goes off....could it be just the sensor switch for the oil light? I don't know if it could be related or if additives like these can lower the oil pressure? level is fine...doesn't seem to be running any different when it comes on and off....it runs great...
If you have a Honda, you should know that nothing but Honda's fluid goes into the tranny and power steering. Any thing else would do more damage than good. Instead of using the additives in your tranny, change your fluid regularly at 30K miles. If you have not done it in a while, change it 3X. The first time, drive it for 1000 miles, the second time, change it when you change the oil. The third time, change it when you change the next oil. Then every 30k after that. As far as the engine, those additives have never scientifically proven to improve any thing in your engine. The thing about Hondas is you need a good tight timing belt, good maintenance and your engine will take care of you. When I say maintenance I don't just mean an oil change. Depending on your year, valve adjustments, clean EGR, clean IAVC, FITV, throttle body, etc. The only additive I found to be useful and works some times is the RedLine gas additive, and Seafoam. I have done it once but now I just use Chevron gas and a good air filter. Unless the manufacturer recommend additives, stay away. They are mostly a waste of money. Save it to fill up your tank.
Just my thoughts on Hondas.
