problems with speedometer
97 honda accord speedometer was acting strange now it completly quit and a 0501 code appeared. I checked the cruse control it doesn't work odometer isn't recording the mile either. What should I do next?

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not reading (functioning) properly

I had the same problem on my 94 (OBD1). VSS was bad. speedo was jumping all over the place once sensor got warmed up. mileage wasn't recording either. if odometer is dead also, that means the VSS signal is not reaching the speedo/odo assembly. I got a new Dorman VSS and has been great for about a year now. you can test the VSS, but if you have no speedo or odo, then the VSS is bad or you have a broken or shorted wire for the VSS. most likely the VSS. i'd do a visual on the harness first anyway.
