I was wondering if the stains on the valve cover mean that I need to replace the gasket? Also if and when i need to remove the valve cover do you guys cover the opening so that dust, dirt, etc. don't get in.

it could. but it could also be some spilling from adding oil. not sure what the stain from the top right corner is from though.

 

Clean, [degrease] your engine drive for a bit and check for leaks. 94
