have a 97 civic misfiring idles fine today stopped running any help please

Stock Civic? Mods? Trim? CEL codes? Spark? Fuel? What have you done already?

 

X2 on cels?

 

no cels i have fuel to the fuel rail and spark to the plugs put on anew rotor and cap got a one second run now nothing again . pulled plugs have fuel on them. wonder if coil is not strong enough .will check timing next

 

Could be a bad coil.

 

the timimng cheked out ok. the resistance on the coil ok. power to the coil and icm but after one second run no spark., will put anew icm next iguess unless thier is somethying else to do

 

What color spark are you getting?

 

not getting spark any more. but it was blue/white

 

well it turned out to be the coil it runs but misses sputters and pops under load any suggestions

 

Do a tune up.

 

Did you replace the coil and it still runs bad?

 

yes ihave repleced the coil, icm,plugs, wires,cap and fuel pressure regulator and it still runs bad

 

You did a lot of the basics and more so. Did you do the fuel filter?

How many miles?

Here is something to consider. Might be low compression or valves seals or worn engine.

If you have a rough running engine and you done all the basics no CEL's sometimes low compression will cause it to run rough, then it is time to swap or rebuild.

Another thing any signs of a bad head gasket, same thing you will get a slight leak in the gasket allows exhaust gases into the cooling system and will run intermittently rough esp when warm.

 

a clogged catalytic converter can cause this if extremely clogged.

 

thanks for ideas. iforgotto mention it but i replaced fuel filter first thing. iam going to check the timing first if it is ok check the cat and do acompression test and look inti head gasket problems. oh it has178k on it.

 

well after all that i had mixed the 2 and 3 plug wires it runs great now. tks again for the help
