Default hard start, new battery

95 ex d16z6. Its been getting increasingly rougher to start, and this morning it would not start so we had to pop start it. I drove an hour and everytime i tried to turn the radio up the radio would shut off and come back on. When trying to start it this morning, the starter turned over it was the battery being dead i presume. Only load on the battery is a power wire for the HID kit.

-New Honda Genuine [Interstate] battery two months ago.
-Starter was off last month when I did a new clutch, torqued back to spec.
-DDM Raptor HID kit installed 2 weeks ago. Kit came with a harness that had a power wire that ran to the battery.
-New NGK V Power spark plugs [.044 gap] and NGK oem plug wires last week

Where to start checking, the HID kit for parasitic draw? The alternator? any ideas or advice appreciated, thanks.

Did this start after the HID install?

Check alternator output? Sounds like when you try and pull more juice it runs out.

After the first start how does it start?

Check the main relay.

I would also disconnect the hid kit for a day or so to see if it starts better.

yeah, it started around when the HIDs were put in, and that was my first thought. But when I drove it today after pop starting, the HIDs were off and it still could not manage to charge the battery, even slightly. I have the battery on the charger right now, I'll pull the HID kit out while I wait on that.

Could be the alternator is on its way out.

Not sure if its that or the starter. Charged the battery, pulled the HID kit and it still won't start. Double checked everything from when I did my clutch, all is good. I pop started it again, left it run for a while and it wouldn't start after i shut it off. I assume its something with the starter since the battery is charged, but the alternator doesn't seem to work either.

Gunna pick up a multimeter tomorrow to further diagnose this.

the battery appears to be dead, the dash lights that flash when the key is on accesory are very dim.

I used a battery diagnostics tester and got 12.39v @ 424cca. the battery is rated at 500cca

You have something drawing power, are you sure you disconnected all the HID parts? Anything else aftermarket installed that draws power?

WOW haha i got her running at work today. Battery tested good, starter had voltage at key on and key start. took a wizzer wheel to my grounds [valve cover, transmission, battery negative] both the wire end and the subframe where it bolts. started right up.

Never under estimate a bad ground!

still worried about the HID parasitic drawing, being that it's not a conventional kit. Will have to play around with it.
